My work is always hand appliqued, hand embroidered and in many cases primarily hand pieced. I machine quilt using a domestic sewing machine because I like the texture and pattern I can create which hand quilting can't provide in quite the exact same way. However, I take great pains to make sure that my quilts still have the nice drape that is desirable and not stiff and inflexible as can happen with too much quilting with a machine. I incorporate machine quilting much like our grandmother's did on their trusty treadles because I still want to create that wonderful nostalgic tactile appeal in the finished work. I do not use any glue in the construction techniques of my quilts.
